Why do we need an amendment to protect hunting and fishing?

23 states have passed a constitutional right to hunt and fish.
Other states, such as Oregon, are trying to limit the rights sportsmen have by attempting to pass a ballot initiative that would prohibit hunting and fishing, but any harmful act to any animal outside of self-defense or veterinary practices.¹
Fishing has a tremendous impact on Florida’s economy.
- Saltwater and freshwater recreational fishing bring a combined total of ~$13.8billion.²
- Supports 120,000 jobs.
Florida Amendment 2 only effects recreational hunting and fishing. The state is still able to regulate commercial fishing and hunting.
Florida Amendment 2 only gives the right of sportsmen to hunt and fish.
- Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation maintains their authority and will continue to regulate which lands are to be used, seasons of the hunts, bag limits, and the types of species that are allowed to be hunted or fished.
- Traditional Methods means legal at the time of passing. The amendment does nothing to change existing law such as gill net bans.
